Why is gratitude important? Several years ago, I asked myself that very question. I had recently had my third son and was feeling an enormous amount of gratefulness in my life. You can read more about that journey here. His birth marked the beginning of my daily gratitude practice and has continued to play a huge part in why I have seen such a mindset shift over the last few years.
While reading about the importance of gratitude as a whole, and seeing a significant change in myself due to its daily presence, I found that daily gratitude can not only make us happier and healthier people but it can completely transform the trajectory of our lives. I have seen the power of gratitude in my own life, time and time again.
Some important ways that gratitude can and does impact our lives are:
- Makes us happier overall
- Reduces toxic emotions
- Improves physical health
- Improves psychological health
- Strengthens our emotions
- Reduces materialism
- Creates a more optimistic view on life
- Improves self-esteem
Think of it this way – you get up every day and do your daily workout. What happens? You see physical changes in yourself, as well as, in your emotional and mental health. Right? Practicing daily gratitude is no different than any other daily practice or habit that you create for yourself. If you choose to impose this new habit into your daily life, then you will start to see a shift in your mindset and therefore, a shift in the core of your overall health and happiness.
